Sizes and prices: I pair of pliers and 8 Bumpa Bits £8.70

The bits come in 2 sizes, 25mm for bantams or larger birds with a shorter beak, and 30mm which fits a large fowl or hybrid-sized hen; please select the size option you would prefer.

Measure the distance between the nostril and tip of the beak to get the right size

All bumpa bits will benefit from warming before fitting; please warm them in a cup of hot water prior first, as this makes the plastic more flexible - take care when fitting. I would suggest ordering more 25mm bits than you think you will need as they can snap easily because they are so small.

Postage:  £3.90 for up to 2 kits, this will show automatically at checkout.

Product description: Bumpa Bits are a valuable tool in preventing serious injury in the case of bullying or feather pulling.

These are for hybrid-sized birds.

They are applied with the supplied circlip pliers, and fit between the upper and lower beak to protect the sharp end of the beak and prevent the bully from grabbing feathers or flesh. The bird will still be able to eat and drink; we’d recommend deep feeders and drinkers for the period while the bit is fitted.

Chickens learn, and unlearn, habits fairly easily, so you should find that it will only need to wear the bit for 3-4 weeks. Please watch the video above, and linked below, for fitting instructions.

Sold in a pack of 8 Bumpa Bits and one pair of pliers, the bits are also sold separately in packs of 8.

Clare’s comment: I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to act quickly in cases of bullying; the situation can quickly escalate into serious injury or worse. Bumpa Bits enable you to work on any possible environmental causes, while the bullying bird is prevented from causing any serious injury.
